Here are a couple of older references that might be helpful. If the instruments used in these studies were not validated at the time, it%u2019s possible that they have since been validated.
ATIA-Assistive Technology Industry Association (2013). The Critical Need for Knowledge and Usage of AT and AAC Among Speech-Language Pathologists, White Paper presented at 2013 ATIA Conference (1-18). (This white paper summarizes the findings of a survey of 549 SLPs. Of the total number, 74% felt that they were inadequately prepared in the area of AAC; and more than 1/3 felt that their colleagues who prescribe AAC did not have the necessary knowledge to do so.)
Fallon, K.A. & Katz, L. (2007). Written language & AAC in the schools: A national survey. Poster presented at the ASHA National Conference, Boston, MA. (Fallon and Katz conducted a national survey of school-based SLPs who provide AAC services, and found that 79% of the 359 participants felt that they did not have the overall expertise to help struggling learners who require AAC.)
We hope this helps. Your research project sounds very interesting.
